The Olten plant is SBB’s largest site in Switzerland and is used for the maintenance of rolling stock. As part of test planning, we and two other teams translated the operational objectives for 2035 and 2050+ into a site development strategy.

The complex structure, consisting of a conglomerate of individual buildings of varying age, condition and protection status, required a holistic approach. Despite the limited space available, the spatial programme and storage capacities were optimised.

The project connects open spaces and recreational areas with the public space, increases the ecological quality through desealing and greening and preserves buildings worthy of protection.
