Novartis Cube

The multilevel house is designed as functional building and lies in the middle of an industrial zone. The concept shows an abstract industry architecture based on a cube and above-head pavilion.

The simple and compact geometry of the cube arises from the functional layout and the required flexibility for extension. The work environment on the top floor overlooks the landscape like a pavilion with an integrated interior and exterior space, which forms a big terrace. The architectural expression is affected by the technical exigencies of the building with strict specification of the open spaces in different zones. These guidelines have been translated into a homogenous facade, which embraces the entire building and oscillates between volume and case. The image of an old punch card helped as reference for the aluminum profiles. Through the folding technique the metal plates gain even more stability and give a shiny, textile appearance. Parametric design comes in to organize the arrangement and production.
