Preserving Historic Buildings Whilst Creating New Housing
This task was at the heart of our ‘Haus UTO’ project.
Designed by Fritz Fischer in 1927, the building is a rare example of Expressionism and Art Deco in Zurich. It has shaped the cityscape for many decades – and now continues to tell its story.
Working closely with the client, PKRück AG, and the heritage conservation authorities, we were able to carefully renovate the building and reinforce its identity. Valuable structural elements were preserved and carried forward into the future. Both are central themes in how we design and plan architecture through our Clever Philosophy.
The original condition has been restored and the building components reused as far as possible. At the same time, the roof extension has created additional living space.
We are delighted to now publish the photos of the completed project.
